Carmilla to be made into a movie

first_imgStay on target 5 YouTube shows you should be watching The lesbian, vampire love story and webseries Carmilla is making the jump to the big screen, thanks to a deal to turn it into a feature-length film. You may not have heard of Carmilla, but it’s one of the most popular, scripted webseries on YouTube with a dedicated cult following. We named it one of the five YouTube series you should be watching due to the dynamic between the two leads and its addictive, updated take on the 19th-century gothic vampire novella. The series is currently in its third season and has been running since 2014. It has a dedicated following of 250,000 on social media, with its videos raking in around 50 million views. Smokebomb Productions airs the series on its YouTube channel KindaTV and will be spearheading the film.“The demand for Carmilla has been off the charts so we wanted to super-serve the fans by exploring the story further through other formats and platforms,” said Jay Bennett, senior vice president of creative and innovation at Smokebomb. “It’s not often that you have the opportunity to launch a film with the kind of built-in fan base that Carmilla has.”The movie is set to take place five years after the events of season three and will feature a lot of the original cast, including Elise Bauman, who plays our lead Laura Hollis, and Natasha Negovanlis, who plays Carmilla. It’ll feature a new mystery for the characters to solve in line with the show’s Veronica Mars-style stories. The script is currently in the works, but it doesn’t have a distributor yet. However, viewers can pre-order the movie through Vimeo’s VHX service for $9.99, and $14.99 for the film with extra features, including a blooper reel. Fans will also have more ways to experience Carmilla as Smokebomb is developing a live stage show, a TV series, and a jewelry line.Considering how attached we and other fans have become to Laura and Carmilla, along with the mostly-female cast of characters, the lesbian and queer storylines, and the touch of supernatural horror, you can say we’re excited.last_img read more
