Agents

first_imgWhile watching a baseball game the other night, the topic of pro athlete’s agents came up.  I know that Curtis Flood is credited with changing baseball forever.  I am not arguing that he was a great impact on the game with his free agency.  The second most drastic change in the way baseball is run today has to be the part that agent’s play in signing ball players.I believe that most baseball players (other pro athletes as well) would sign much quicker if they weren’t dealing through an agent.  The agent will tell you that his main concern is the welfare of the player he represents.  I don’t buy this.  I think his main concern is how big his cut will be when his player signs his new contract.  I don’t know if this action played a part in the negotiations of Hunter Greene with the Reds, but I do know that his delay in signing with the Reds was not foreseen when the Reds made him their top pick this year.  He signed at the last second because of minor details. If you want to look up “agent” in the dictionary, don’t look under “A”, but look under “L” for leach!last_img read more
