MADISON, Ind. — The Indiana DNR says the black bear that is believed to be hibernating in the Big Oaks National Wildlife refuge will likely awaken soon. The bear was spotted last November in the wildlife refuge. The DNR says the bear could emerge from hibernation as early as this week, depending on weather conditions.Officials are urging residents near the refuge to secure garbage cans, remove bird feeders, and remove other food sources to keep the bear leery of humans. If the bear becomes used to human foods, it will seek them out.The DNR’s wildlife biologists reminds residents of the following tips to stay aware:Don’t intentionally feed bears. If a bear becomes accustomed to finding food near your home, it is likely to become a “problem” bear.Place garbage cans inside a garage or shed.Clean and store grills away after use.Don’t leave pet food outside overnight.Remove bird feeders and bird food from late March through November.Don’t add meat or sweets to a compost pile.If you encounter a bear, don’t run. Shout, wave your arms and back away slowly.Collect and remove low-hanging or fallen fruit from fruit trees.Eliminate meat, cooking oil, fish or fruit odors from near your home. This includes fish-meal fertilizers.Collect and remove any ripened vegetables from your garden.Protect bee hives through the use of electric fencing. If you spot the bear you are asked to call 334-1137.
Week 16 is finally here. All of your blood, sweat, and tears has brought you to your fantasy football championship game. There’s no better feeling than playing for a title, even if it’s just in a virtually scored league based on the actions of real-life people you’ll probably never meet. Thank goodness it won’t come down to a game-winning kick because you got rid of kickers before this season. Wait… your league still has kickers? You actually need some Week 16 fantasy kicker rankings? Well, luckily for you, I wrote some more words and put some names in order. It’s winning time, and that means there’s no messing around — no being lazy and not changing your kicker just because you don’t want to take the time to do it. Just like I advised last week, two of the biggest factors when choosing a kicker this time of year is whether misses count against you and what the weather forecast looks like. We’ll make adjustments as the week goes on due to the latter. (Update: Keep an eye on Greg Zuerlein’s health ahead of Saturday as he deals with a quad injury.)WEEK 16 NON-PPR RANKINGS:Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/STAt first glance, one thing stood out this week: Matt Prater gets to return and kick in the thin air of Denver. We know how intriguing he was as a fantasy kicker during his time with the Broncos, and so that intrigue is back this week (weather permitting). We also have Zane Gonzalez, Matt Gay and Younghoe Koo as high as they’ve been all season because they just keep on draining kicks.WEEK 16 DFS LINEUPS:FD Cash | FD GPP | DK Cash | DK GPP | Y! Cash | Y! GPPIf you’re in a tricky kicker spot for some reason, give Josh Lambo a try. Getting to use his big leg in Atlanta’s dome against a defense that should allow ball movement could pay off. MORE WEEK 16 DFS: Stacks | Values | Lineup BuilderLike I said above, these rankings will be updated throughout the week if there are any late-season kicker moves or particularly concerning or helpful weather developments, so check back later in the week, too.
