Coconut vendor killed in La Grange accident

first_imgA 42-year-old man is the latest road fatality after he was struck down on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD), late Thursday evening.Dead is Roopesh Ramotar, a coconut vendor, of Lot 12 Houston Public Road, Greater Georgetown. The accident occurred sometime around 22:40h, during which the deceased sustained severe head injuries.According to reports reaching Guyana Times, Ramotar was standing outside of hisDead: Roopesh Ramotarparked car, PMM 8153, on the La Grange Public Road when he was struck by an oncoming motor car, PTT 755.This newspaper understands that the motor car was proceeding north along the West Bank Road reportedly at a fast rate, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into Ramotar’s car before picking him up and throwing him into the air.Public spirited citizens rushed the injured man to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.Speaking with this publication, the dead man’s mother, Seeta (only name given) related that her son left his home sometime around 14:00h on Thursday and did not returned home that night.The woman explained that his family became worried and was about to file a Police report on Friday morning, when calls to his cellular phone went unanswered.“A nurse from Best (West Demerara Regional Hospital) picked up and say that he was in an accident, but she can’t give out more information. So everybody gathered and they go to the hospital and then they find out that he die since the night before.”The woman went onto say that her son had gone over to the West Bank to drop a friend at Canal, WBD, and was on his way home when the accident occurred.According to the relatives, who went to identified Ramotar’s body, the man suffered a broken leg and head injuries.The body of Ramotar is at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour, awaiting a post-mortem examination, which is scheduled for Monday. He leaves to mourn his wife and three children, including a nine-month-old baby boy.Meanwhile, a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of PTT 755, a 57-year-old resident of Pouderoyen, WBD, and he was found to be above the legal limit in terms of blood alcohol level.
