From bungee jumping off Bloukrans River Bridge in the heart of South Africa to visiting the Eiffel tower in Paris, the content includes both well known tourist attractions as well as stories from quieter corners of the world. These days, there are hundreds of travel writing sites across the internet, and some of the content on Tripsource is now quite old; the fact that they still have ‘Yugoslavia’ on their list of countries suggests it’s time for an update! But nevertheless, Tripsource’s stories and pictures that have come from destinations as far afield as Ethiopia and Papua New Guinea still remain a good source of information and inspiration to travellers today. The first is “Eliminate Waste.”  These two words, sound like a no-brainer. trash wasteHowever, identifying what waste is and how to lose it is tricky and time-consuming, according to Kelly Waters of the Agile Development Made Easy Blog.Lean development was born of Lean manufacturing at the Toyota Production System in Japan. Toyota identified waste as anything that was:Muda- unproductiveMura- uneven, inconsistentMuri- over-burden, unreasonablenessBased on this, Waters writes, “they also identified 7 particular types of waste in manufacturing.” These include:Over-productionUnnecessary transportationInventoryMotionDefectsOver-processingWaitingThis translates well to the Agile development practice called the ‘retrospective.’  This is the team meeting after a short ‘iteration’ to discuss what worked and what might be done differently the next time. These retrospectives offer a chance for continual improvement and make it easier to identify waste and eliminate it. “With agile development, these retrospectives enable the team to make small improvements regularly, and tackle changes in manageable, bite-sized pieces that can be actioned immediately,” writes Waters.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to PrintPrintShare to EmailEmailShare to MoreAddThislast_img read more
